How does everyone handle cracked teeth? I am seeing patients with cracked teeth frequently but it often feels like an uphill battle to get the patient to accept that the tooth needs to be restored if they’re not experiencing discomfort yet.

One of my mentors once told me that “they don’t heal themselves (regarding cracked teeth)”. and that comment has really stuck with me over the years as I’m treatment planning.

That’s a pretty good way to look at it I guess. how do you communicate the need treatment with the patient though?

Sorry I missed this comment a few months ago.

I just take a picture and show the patient the photo of the crack.

To me, there’s a difference between symptomatic and asymptomatic cracks.. symptomatic is much easier to explain.

I did just get an app called “DDSGP” which had very good visual demos of different types of pathology, including cracks

Thanks so much! I’ll take a look at the app.
