I wanted to share something we’ve been working on for a while and get your honest thoughts. We (Proximal Contact, LLC) just launched BestDentalSchools.org a few weeks ago with our first annual dental school rankings were published on 3/31. This project will get better over time, and I’d really value your perspective.

About a year ago we launch our first attempt at ranking dental schools on DentWoo. I’ll link to that in the comment section below. Over the year, we got a lot of feedback from students and one thing was clear – they were confused about what DentWoo is and how to make an impact on the list. So we decided we’d build a separate site dedicated to rankings, reviews, and alumni for dental schools. The project then became BestDentalSchools.org with a clear mission – to highlight the best dental schools and the alumni who attend them.

After collecting data and speaking with students and alumni, here’s how our top 10 shook out for 2025:

    1. UNC Chapel Hill
    2. UCSF
    3. Iowa
    4. Michigan
    5. UMKC
    6. Maryland
    7. Texas A&M
    8. Florida
    9. Pacific
    10. UCLA

I know rankings can be subjective (and sometimes controversial), which is exactly why I’m posting here. Many of you have been practicing for years and have worked alongside graduates from various programs.

While the best school is often “the one you get into”, what really matters to us is creating a resource that actually helps future dentists make informed decisions about their education.

For those who teach or regularly work with new grads from any of these schools, I’d especially love to hear your take on their preparedness for practice. Are there particular strengths you’ve noticed from certain programs?

And I’m genuinely curious – what factors do you think matter most when evaluating dental schools? We tried to balance everything from clinical hours to student satisfaction to research output, but I’m sure there are perspectives we haven’t fully captured. You can see the list and full scope of the project here: https://bestdentalschools.org/best-dental-schools/

Here is the first list we made on DentWoo for 2024 rankings (as you can see, there’s a lot of change based on feedback we received the first time around + we had an option to vote for the best school and took those votes into consideration): https://dentwoo.com/best-dental-schools/

That’s a pretty good start to a list. I’d add LSU and drop UOP

Both schools in AZ are good, but they are expensive.
