How Long is an Endodontic Residency?

Endodontic residency programs typically last 2-3 years, depending on the specific program and institution. This advanced training in endodontics follows the completion of a 3 or 4-year dental school program and often a 1-year general practice residency or equivalent private practice experience.

The 2-year endodontic programs are more common, but some institutions offer 3-year programs that may include additional research opportunities, clinical experiences, or a Master’s degree.

During an endodontic residency, residents receive intensive training in:

  1. Pulpal diagnosis and treatment
  2. Advanced root canal techniques
  3. Microsurgery
  4. Trauma management
  5. Pulpal therapy, revascularization, and other advanced techniques involving the dental pulp.
