Synopsis: During the presentation, attendees will learn common missteps many dentists take when attempting to build a successful financial plan.  Many clients are confused as to the difference between a financial advisor, financial planner  and investment manager and how each is compensated.  Attendees will a much better understanding about how a financial advisor is paid and how that directly affects their own financial plan. We will examine the role that emotions and behavioral finance play in making decisions about money and how they often derail success.  Finally, we will discuss practical ways to determine if a financial plan is on the right path.   

Educational Objectives:

  • Understand the difference between a financial advisor, financial planner and investment manager.
  • Examine who an advisor is really working for and how they are being compensated.
  • Discuss the reason many dentists gather products with no overall objective.
  • Discover the issues with not saving enough for retirement.
  • Explore why so many dentists listen to their colleagues for financial advice.
  • Review why behavioral finance plays such an important role in making poor financial decisions.

    General Dentist

    Dr. Paul Goodman is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. Paul has been practicing dentistry for over 10 years and works with his brother in two locations in Mercer County, NJ. In addition to private practice, he teaches dental residents at Albert Einstein Medical Center as well as lectures to dentists on placing and restoring dental implants. Paul is also a part of the United Dental Brokers of America team. He has purchased three dental practices and is looking forward to sharing his personal experience with the transition process. He works well with retiring dentists in managing the expectation of their patients and team members during the transition process.
